A-Z road map of Birmingham c. 1962

The index to the roads on the map can be found in the frame in the bottom half of the screen. Where I have historical background information I have included it. In some cases it was considered fashionable to taken names borrowed from London. Others were named after children of the Colmore, Gooch, Holte families, etc, on whose land some of the estates were built. Other roads are simply named after where they lead to or obvious features like canals or hills. Where this is clear I have not commented.
